Siliconix Releases New Si9182DH LDO Regulator

September 04, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

A new LDO regulator that eliminates the need for scarce tantalum capacitors in power-conversion designs has been announced by Siliconix Inc. (Santa Clara, CA). The new Vishay Siliconix Si9182DH can be used with ceramic 2.2-microfarad capacitors on the input and output while providing improved performance over ICs requiring more expensive tantalum components, according to Siliconix.

Siliconix claims the Si9182DH sets new standards for dropout voltage and speed. It features a maximum continuous output current of 250mA, dropout voltage of 180mV, line and load transient response of less than 2 microseconds, an input range of 2V to 6V, a range of adjustable output voltages from 1.8V to 5V, and a maintained regulation peak current up to 500mA.

"The lower dropout voltage rating of the Si9182DH will prolong battery life, since the input-to-output voltage differential is as low as possible," said Vishay Intertechnology Marketing Director Jan Nilsson.

Packaged in the eight-pin MSOP, samples and production quantities of the Si9182DH are available now, with lead times of 10 to 12 weeks for larger orders. Pricing for US delivery in 100,000-unit quantities starts at $0.55.
