Siliconix Presents New Si9185 LDO Regulator IC

January 07, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Siliconix Inc. (Santa Clara, CA), a subsidiary of Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, PA), announced the launch of the Si9185, a 500mA CMOS low dropout (LDO) regulator that features very low dropout and ground current in a compact, thermally enhanced MLP33 PowerPAK package. With low dropout of just 150mV at 500mA, and a small 3mm x 3mm footprint, the new Si9185 is designed to prolong battery life in compact, portable electronics, including notebook computers, PDAs, digital cameras, smart phones, and switch-mode power supplies.

The Si9185 LDO is specified for input voltages from 2V to 6V and is available in 10 fixed voltage options ranging from 1.2V to 5V, as well as in adjustable output-voltage options. The device features noise output of 100µV(rms) with a noise bypass capacitor, 1.5 percent output-voltage accuracy, 1.1W power dissipation, and a maximum shutdown current of 1µA. If a capacitor is connected to the device's delay pin, the Si9185's out-of-regulation error flag output pin will generate a delayed power-on-reset signal. Integrated short-circuit and thermal protection ensure reliable operation over the regulator's operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

Samples and production quantities of the Si9185 are available now with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders. Pricing for US delivery in 10,000-piece quantities is $0.60.
