Siliconix Introduces New Si4864DY and SI4862DY TrenchFETs

August 23, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Siliconix Inc., a subsidiary of Vishay Intertechnology Inc., announced the release of twoTrenchFET power MOSFETs in the LITTLE FOOT SO-8.

Aimed at synchronous buck dc-to-dc converter applications, the new devices are rated for maximum RDS(on) of just 3.5 milliohms for the Si4864DY and 3.3 milliohms for the Si4862DY. Either device can handle up to 25A at a 4.5V gate-to-source voltage. Maximum Vds for the Si4864DY is 20V, while the Si4862DY is the industry's first power MOSFET with a 16V drain-source voltage rating.

Used as the low-side synchronous MOSFET in dc-to-dc circuits, the new devices will enable the design of more efficient power converters in desktop computers, servers and routers. The 20V Si4864DY is intended for use in systems with 12V power buses, while the Si4862DY, with its 16V breakdown voltage, provides generous headroom in 5V systems while eliminating the overkill - and on-resistance penalty - of using a 20V MOSFET with a 5V bus.

Samples and production quantities of the Si4862DY and SI4864DY are available now, with lead times of 8 to 10 weeks for larger orders. Pricing for US delivery in 100,000-piece quantities starts at $1.33.
