Siemens Solar Intros Earthsafe PV Power Kits

August 17, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Siemens Solar (Camarillo, CA) introduced its new earthsafe line of pre-engineered solar kits designed to enable homeowners to harness solar energy in a simplified, cost-effective way. The company also recently introduced a line of battery charger kits claimed to provide cost-effective solar-power solutions for recreational vehicle owners.Siemens Solar's earthsafe systems each include solar panels and electronics kits configured for 600, 900, 1500 or 2400W. The small-scale solar energy systems enable homeowners to take advantage of net metering programs, feeding extra energy back to their utility company. Suggested installed pricing starts at $3,395 for the minimum (600W) configuration."These systems bring new value to the marketplace, because we have pre-engineered the systems to fit real-world environments," stated Siemens Solar COO Chet Farris. "In the past, solar electric systems were uniquely designed for specific installations. This naturally increased installation costs. With earthsafe kits, electrical contractors can profitably sell and develop new installations."The Siemens Solar RV Power Kit is a complete packaged system that includes a solar module, a 15A charge controller, mounting hardware, heavy-duty wiring, and an installation guide. The kits are available with power outputs of 36, 50, 75 or 100W. The 36W model can provide 8-10Ah per day, while the 100W model can provide 22-26Ah per day, on 4-5 hours of sunlight.Expansion kits in outputs of 50, 75 and 100W are also available. The expansion kits include a solar module, mounting hardware, and wiring that can be paired with the full RV Power Kits for those owners who want additional power.
