Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. introduced the new WSBS8518…34 (above right) and WSBS8518…35 (above left) Power Metal Strip® shunt resistors. The shunt resistors feature a solid metal nickel-chrome alloy resistive element with a calibration notch and “boot” design on their terminals. According to Vishay, the shunt resistors improve TCR performance (down to ±10ppm/°C) for better accuracy over temperature extremes.
With extremely low resistance down to 100μΩ and power ratings up to 36W, the newly released Vishay Dale devices increase accuracy and lower costs compared to manganese alloy shunts and Hall Effect current sensing solutions.
The two sense pins of the WSBS8518…35 assist in PCB mounting and provide consistent contact point locations on the shunt.
Available in the 8518 case size, the resistors were fabricated with a proprietary processing technique that produces their extremely low resistance values. This processing technique also enables the high current capabilities of the resistors.
Vishay designed the devices for battery management in gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric cars and trucks, and large UPS systems as well as electric forklifts and other heavy industrial applications.
With an all-welded construction, the WSBS8518…34 and WSBS8518…35 have low inductance values of less than 5nH, low thermal EMF down to less than 1.25µV/°C. They have an operating temperature range of -65°C to +170°C. The resistors are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green.
