Sharp Corp. (Tokyo, Japan) has built the world's largest production plant for multi-crystal, silicon solar cells, with an annual output of 148MW. The production line was added to the company's Shinjo Plant in Nara Prefecture for an investment of 4.5 billion yen. The facility now has five solar lines; one for single-crystal silicon cells and four for multi-crystal units. Sharp's annual manufacturing capacity has increased from 54MW to 200 MW.
