Semtech Intros SC338 LDO FET Controller

December 15, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Semtech Corp. (Camarillo, CA) announced a power controller that allows designers to implement simpler and more compact distributed dual power supplies. The SC338 dual linear FET controller provides two regulated output voltages to support power supply requirements in notebook and desktop computers, PC expansion cards, embedded computers, set top boxes, network hubs, routers, and other communications systems.

The SC338 controller is designed for input supplies ranging from 4.5V to 13.2V, with two independent and fully adjustable outputs, depending on input supply. For instance, with a 12V input the output range is 0.5V to 3.3V, while a 5V input yields an output-voltage range of 0.5V to 1.8V. The SC338 provides two output accuracy options, ±1.5 percent or ±2.5 percent reference voltage. The device also exhibits very low quiescent current in shutdown mode, typically 500µA to 600µA, depending on input voltage.

The SC338 in a 10-pin MSOP package is available immediately in production quantities, priced at $0.90 in 1,000-piece lots.
