November 23, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Seiko Instruments Inc. (Japan) announced its S-8253A/B Series of lithium-ion, battery protection ICs for two-serial or three-serial cells, which are rated at 26V, and offer high-accuracy voltage detection for each cell. The S-8253A/B Series features delay times that are generated by an internal circuit, a charge/discharge operation that can be inhibited via the control pin, and a selectable with/without 0V battery charge function.

With a 2V to 24V operating voltage range, the product has a low current consumption and operates between the -40°C to +85°C temperature range. Suitable for use in lithium-ion rechargeable battery packs, and lithium-polymer rechargeable battery packs, the battery protection IC is available in an eight-pin TSSOP.
