March 15, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

ScottishPower (UK) announced it is committed to developing 50MW of additional renewable resources when it merges with PacifiCorp (Portland, OR). According to Alan Richardson, who will become CEO of PacifiCorp following the transaction, the company will invest $60 million over the next five years in developing additional windpower, solar or geothermal resources.

The combined company claims it will generate five to 10 percent of the new renewable energy in the US with about one percent of the customers. Richardson made the commitment to new renewables in testimony submitted to state regulators, noting that ScottishPower is a leading renewable resources in the UK with 92MW of windpower capacity.
