Sanyo Launches New Rechargeable Battery Factory

Sanyo Energy Corp. (San Diego, CA) launched its newest rechargeable battery factory with a gala grand opening celebration hosting an international audience. The custom-built facility, called SIA Electronica de Baja California SA de CV Battery Monterrey, is located in the Nuevo Leon region at the 100th Meridian.

Sanyo Electro Co. Ltd. Chairman Statoshi Iue welcomed guests from Japan, Mexico and the US to celebrate the opening of the new 15,000 square-meter facility. With a ceremonial press of the button, Sanyo started the production line of lithium-ion rechargeable battery packs for the communications market. Nickel metal-hydride battery pack production is scheduled for July, 2001.
