Rohde & Schwarz Presenting Power Electronics T&M Solutions at PCIM Europe

Rohde & Schwarz will present its family of oscilloscopes and power supplies for power electronics applications at PCIM Europe from May 7 to 9, 2019, in Nuremberg. Representatives from Rohde & Schwarz along with its latest test and measurement products can be found in hall 6 (booth 246).

Highlights of the showcase include high-sensitivity oscilloscopes with fast FFT functionality for EMI debugging in fast switching applications.

In addition, the company will show off the new Bode plot functionality integrated into oscilloscopes for control loop stability testing.

The showcased Rohde & Schwarz oscilloscopes are aimed at meeting the increasing challenges and stringent requirements for power electronics measurements. Under the banner, “Three tasks in one device”, Rohde & Schwarz will display the R&S RTA4000 and R&S RTM3000 oscilloscopes. Each of the two oscilloscopes target three crucial application areas concerning power electronics design. (See image above).

EMI Debugging

Increasing switching speed in power electronics can increase the risk of higher electromagnetic interference (EMI), making EMC compliance a challenge.

With the help of fast and easy to use FFT functionality, the R&S RTM3000 and R&S RTA4000, like all Rohde & Schwarz oscilloscopes, are especially useful for EMI optimization of power supplies.

They can correlate electromagnetic emissions in the frequency domain with the corresponding signals in the time domain, thus allowing a deeper insight into the root causes of unwanted emissions. This helps minimize unwanted EMI from switched-mode power supplies right on the lab bench.

Analysis of Switching Events

According to Rohde & Schwarz, the switching operation in power electronics designs can be accurately analyzed with the help of the RT-ZHD high-voltage differential probe family and the RT-ZD10 broadband differential probe.

Both the &S RTA4000 and R&S RTM3000 are high-resolution oscilloscopes that deliver a 10-bit vertical resolution and they have ultra-deep memory, that allows longer periods of time to be captured at full bandwidth.

Control Loop Stability

The R&S RTx-K36 Bode option employs the oscilloscope’s built-in waveform generator to produce stimulus signals for the DUT. It shows the results as a Bode plot or in a table.

With the R&S RTx-K36 Bode plot option for the company’s R&S RTB2000, R&S RTM3000 and R&S RTA4000 oscilloscopes, control loop stability tests can be performed on switched-mode power supplies without having to use separate test equipment.

In addition, the R&S RTx-K36 Bode plot option allows the characterization of filters and amplifier circuits as well as the measuring of the power supply rejection ratio (PSRR).

Other instruments on display at the Rohde & Schwarz booth include the R&S NGL200 power supply and the R&S Scope Rider. The company designed the new R&S NGL200 power supply series specifically for demanding applications that require high accuracy and fast load recovery times.

The R&S Scope Rider is a handheld oscilloscope with up to four isolated input channels with CAT IV 600V/CAT III 1000V rating offering lab performance in a portable design.
