ReGen Premieres 2.3kW Portable Generator

January 15, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

ReGen Tech Ltd. (Aberdeen, Scotland) announced its new 2.3kW prototype portable generator, which is designed and built for trial and demonstration purposes. The self-contained and automatic unit is a direct replacement for diesel generators for roadside emergency lighting, traffic lights or signaling. It is designed for use within inner cities for night-time duty where noise and pollution can be a nuisance, but where traffic and pedestrian safety cannot be compromised.

The unit is virtually silent; nitrogen is used for purging on startup and shutdown; and the self-powered system features a startup battery with peripheral circuits from the generator, a 24Vdc peripheral control circuit, a 24V battery for startup and emergency shutdown, and a battery trickle re-charger. The unit is entirely pollution-free, exhaust gas is pure water vapour, fuel is hydrogen from onboard tanks and air, the power rating is 2kW nominal, the output voltage is 240V/50Hz, the full-load voltage is 240Vac ±5 percent, the full-load current is 10A, the full-load power is 2.3kW net, and the load current has a max rate of rise of 10A/s.

The current system is available in eight weeks. Accessories and training on the system are quoted separately.
