May 01, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Pulse (San Diego, CA) has entered the automotive electronics marketplace with the recent acquisition of Mexico City-based Grupo ECM by Pulse's parent company, Technitrol (Philadelphia, PA). Antonio Laguna, president of Grupo ECM, has become president of the new division, to be renamed Pulse-ECM.

In making the announcement, John Kowalski, president of Pulse, noted that the automotive industry presents the company with a significant new growth market and an opportunity to diversify its customer base. Pulse-ECM will design and develop both surface-mount and standard-mount magnetic components, including inductors, power transformers, filters, magnetic sensors and couplers.

“The increasing demand for electronic control devices in new vehicles, along with expanded security, entertainment, navigation and information options, will continue to increase the need for automotive magnetic components. In addition, we believe the shift to 42V battery technology will significantly expand this market opportunity. Pulse ECM is ready with well-managed, high-quality design and production facilities, coupled with 25 years of experience in providing custom magnetic products to the automotive

industry," Kowalski said.
