Pulse Engineering Offers HX5 Series Gigabit Devices

March 25, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Pulse Engineering Inc. (San Diego, CA) announced its HX5 Series of extended-temperature, gigabit, discrete, magnetic components, which are the first discrete gigabit parts with an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C available as standard products, in compliance with gigabit Ethernet standard IEEE 802.3i/u/ab.

The HX5 Series is designed for long-haul gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000Base-T) applications such as remote cellular base-stations, telecommunications equipment, switch servers, aerospace and automotive applications. The HX5008 fits directly behind a 1 x 1 RJ45 connector on a printed circuit board. The HX5012, HX5014 and HX5020 are gigabit designs for dual-port, high-density, packet-switch applications. The HX5020 is targeted for cellular and terrestrial trunked radio base-station equipment applications.

The standard gigabit parts that Pulse offers are the single-port H5004, H5007, H5008 and H5009, and the H5012, H5014 and H5020 dual-port components that have an operating temperature range between 0 °C and +70 °C. The HX5004 and HX5008 single-port components and the HX5014 and HX5020 dual-port components have an operational range of -40 °C to +85 °C.

The parts in this series are available in tube or tape-and-reel packaging, with prices averaging $3.80 per port for quantities of 10,000 units.
