programmable output precision voltage reference

November 21, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Unitrode Corp. (Merrimack, NH) introduced a 5-bit programmable output precision voltage reference. Unitrode claims the device, UCC391, is a solution for any programmable output dc/dc converter requiring precision low output voltage. The UCC391 output voltage range can be set between 3.5V to 2.1V in 100mV steps and from 2.05V to 1.3V in 50mV steps; with one percent dc system accuracy. According to Unitrode, the low input voltage (5V) operation eliminates the need for a 12V rail. The UCC391 is compatible with the Intel Pentium II microprocessor VID codes. Packaging options include 8-pin TSSOP or tiny mini-SO packages that take up little board area and height. The device is specified for operation from 0 degrees C to 70 degrees C. In quantities of 1,000, the UCC391 is priced from $1.25 to $1.30 and is currently available from stock.
