Haydon Kerk Pittman announced the latest release in its line of brushless dc motors, the EC042B IDEA® Motor Series. The compact, programmable IDEA® Motor integrates a precision brushless servo motor with an IDEA Drive controller. According to the company this integration and compact design reduce design time, wiring needs, and cabinet space resulting in lower overall system costs.
A broad range of reduction ratios and torque capabilities enable the optimized performance of the EC042B IDEA Motor for unique motion applications including those for medical devices, lab automation, aerospace systems, semiconductor processing equipment, and many other applications where precision motion and compact packaging are crucial.
Haydon Kerk Pittman specifically designed the IDEA Motor for real-time embedded motion control, and it is suited for autonomous and precise execution of complex single-axis motion.
IDEA Motor offers an integrated package of motor, drive, and feedback connections. The company claims that a single motor/drive unit reduces motion system components by up to 75% per axis and simplifies machine troubleshooting. Directly wiring sensor inputs and control outputs to the IDEA Motor, rather than through a control cabinet can further reduce the component count.
The pre-engineered, factory-configured, and tested servo system can immediately generate complex precise motion sequences utilizing the company’s free graphical user interface that provides an intuitive programming environment for rapid development, saving, and debugging of complex motion sequences.
The connections between the drive and the motor are internal. So, after connecting power, optional I/O connections, and communications, the IDEA Motor is ready to operate.
Integrated RS-485 communications fieldbus ports can program autonomous motion sequences, monitor system status, or stream commands for synchronizing motion among multiple motors.
Three motor lengths of the EC042B IDEA Motor are available, each with optional factory-configurable gearboxes.
