Primarion Presents New 1U VRM Reference Boards

February 07, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Primarion Inc. (Tempe, AZ), a mixed-signal semiconductor company that provides digital control of power solutions, announced its new high-efficiency 1U voltage regulator module (VRM) reference boards, which combined with Primarion's Digital Multiphase Power chipset, delivers 86% efficiency at 105 A load currents, while meeting the difficult power requirements of next-generation microprocessors.

The Primarion 1U VRM reference boards, based upon the Powercode™ PX3535 six-phase digital controller and the PX3520 integrated power stage chipset, measure 1 in x 3.8 in, and offer 86% efficiency with only four phases. The new VRM utilizes built-in digital technology to implement all control functions. The PX3535 digital controller incorporates an industry-standard I2C-bus serial interface for control and monitoring. Through the serial interface, the power supply designer can quickly optimize designs and monitor system performance. The interface allows the PX3535 controller to provide digitized information for real-time system monitoring and control.
