January 23, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Powerbox USA Inc. (Broomfield, CO) recently introduced the UPN65-31 65W open-frame power supply. According to the company, the UPN65-31 has two independently regulated outputs, 3.3Vdc at 10A and 5.0Vdc at 10A, as well as an auxiliary 112V at 1A output. The device is designed to provide 45W convection cooled to 65W with only 10CMF of forced air and is on the industry-standard 3" x 5" form factor.

According to Powerbox, the UPN65-31 has a universal ac input; has UL, CSA and TUV safety approvals; and is CE marked to the LVD. The device also meets FCC and VDE Class B EMI/RFI standards for conducted and radiated emissions. Peter Wagner, product manager for Powerbox USA, stated that the UPN65-31 is one of the few dual independently regulated supplies available in the world at this wattage, let alone one that is configured for 1U high instrument enclosures and rack applications.

The UPN65-31 is suitable for new, medium-power, control, instrumentation and data processing markets that require a low-cost 3.3Vdc and 5.0Vdc supply. According to the company, the UPN65-31 is available for immediate applications and will be priced similarly to other 65W triple-output supplies that do not have dual independently regulated outputs.
