Power Trends Intros PT3320 DC/DC Converter Series

March 22, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

The PT3320 Series of 30W fully isolated dc/dc converters from Power Trends Inc. (Warrenville, IL) are claimed to be the first 30W converters to feature an open frame 19-pin SIP housing with the ability to mount the converter either vertically or horizontally. Mounted vertically, the PT3320 occupies less than 50 percent of the PC board space of industry standard quarter-bricks, according to Power Trends. The converters are also available in a low profile surface mount package. Offering 1500Vdc isolation, 85 percent efficiency and an input voltage range of 36-75V, the converters are designed to be easily integrated into a broad range of 48V distributed power applications. Features include an inhibit function and differential remote sense that automatically compensates for any voltage drop from the converter to the load. Other features include current limit, short circuit and overtemperature protection. Output voltages from 2V to 15V are available, with the ability to adjust the nominal output voltage from 90 to 110 percent with a single external resistor. The series also includes the PT3340, which has an input voltage range of 18V to 60V and includes all the same features as the PT3320. The PT3320 series is priced at $35.50 each in quantities of 1,000.
