Power Sources Manufacturer's Association Introduces New Power Supply Report

February 06, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

The Power Sources Manufacturer's Association (PSMA, Mendham, NJ) recently completed its report describing cutting-edge electrical and mechanical design in the power electronics industry. The report, Trends in Power Supply Design and Packaging, also describes the likely improvements that will occur in the industry over the next five years.

The 420-page, two-part report includes the collaborative efforts of power source manufacturers, industry experts and university researchers.

The first part features papers from a panel of 10 recognized and knowledgeable experts describing the state-of-the-art in their specialty. They describe the state-of-the-art in power supply packaging, capacitors, magnetic components, control ICs, power semiconductors, connectors, carrier systems, thermal management and overall design.

The second part of the report is a detailed evaluation of 10 ac/dc and 10 dc/dc power supplies that were carefully selected to represent the current state-of-the-art in available products.

"We have a major work by anyone's standard," said Joe Horzepa, executive director of the PSMA. "The PSMA is in a unique position to solicit the power-source industry's participation, and we were fortunate to find a high degree of cooperation and enthusiasm for the project. The resulting 420-page comprehensive report delves into a level of detail that should satisfy the most discerning engineer."

The report will be sold through two PSMA member companies, Powerquotes and Darnell Group.
