Power-One Offers FNP850-12 Front-End Power Supply

December 28, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, CA) introduced its FNP850-12, the first in a series of hot-swap ac-dc front-ends featuring industry-leading power densities and I2C-interface capabilities. The FNP850-12 provides 12 Vdc at 71 A, at a power density of 15 W/in³, to power isolated and point-of-load dc-dc converters in networking and storage applications.

The combination of a wide-range input (85 Vac to 264 Vac) with an output adjustment range of 7 Vdc to 12 Vdc enables inventorying just one part number for a variety of applications. Additional applications flexibility is facilitated with a 12 Vdc at 0.5 A standby output, to accommodate startup and I2C operations as required by the host system.

The FNP850-12 offers ultra-compact package dimensions of 1.6 in x 3.3 in x 11 in (40.6 mm x 83.8 mm x 279.4 mm), including an internal fan, and support use in 1U and 2U high mounting configurations. Full-featured, five-slot racks, providing 4,250 W, are currently available. Pricing is $500 each in quantities of 250. Evaluation units are usually available from stock. Production quantities are typically available in six to eight weeks.
