November 28, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, CA) introduced its new 600 W PALS600-2482 ac-dc power supply designed for Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) applications. The power-dense (9 W/in³), 1U-high power supply is designed for powering PoE systems and associated appliances such as IP phones and remote access devices.

The PALS600-2482 power supply features full compliance to IEEE 802.3af, low noise and ripple on the 48 Vdc at 9 A output, 1,500 Vac (2,250 Vdc) isolation between the output and other outputs and interface signals, a second output providing 12 Vdc at 16 A, a 12 Vdc at 500 mA standby output that facilitates I2C interface operation and host-system startup, internal-diode isolation for parallel or redundant operation, IEC61000-3-2 compliant PFC with inrush-current limit, full-power operation to 50 °C, power-derated operation to 70 °C, overload and short circuit protection, brownout and overtemperature protection, fan fail warnings and shutdowns, and output over-voltage and MOV-input-transient protection.

Safety agency approvals include UL60950-1/CSA 22.2, No. 60950-1; EN60950-1 (TUV); and IEC60950-1. Pricing for the fully enclosed, 10.4 in x 4 in x 1.6 in (264.2 mm x 101.6 mm x 40.6 mm) PALS600 is $475 each in quantities of 100. Evaluation units are available from stock to four weeks. Production quantities are typically available in 8 to 10 weeks.
