Power-One Intros ESM4/ESM6 Series Power Supplies

September 01, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, CA) introduced the ESM4 and ESM6 Series, which meet UL2601-1 and EN60601-1 medical requirements. The new modular products are additions to Power-One’s ESP Family of ac/dc power supplies. Low leakage currents, under 300µA, combined with the IEC601-1 isolation and spacing makes these products suitable power platforms for medical-diagnostic applications such as MRI and CAT scanners, blood analyzers, and DNA sequencers.

The ESM4 Series is available in 400W and 600W configurations, both providing up to eight outputs from 2.56in x 5in x 10.63in (65mm x 127mm x 270mm) chassis. The ESM6 Series is available in 600W and 1,000W versions, both providing up to 12 outputs from 2.56in x 7.36in x 10.63in (65mm x 187mm x 270mm) packages. Five single-output and two dual-output modules can be configured in series or parallel to provide outputs from 1.45Vdc to 58Vdc.

Additional features include a wide-range input from 88Vac to 264Vac, no minimum-load operation, an internal fan and fully-isolated outputs. In addition, individual output modules have a power-good signal, output inhibit and remote adjust. Standard options include input power fail, global enable or inhibit, and a 5V at 50mA bias supply. Regulatory agency compliances include UL, cUL, EN61000-3-2 (PFC), Class B conducted emissions, and the EMC requirements of EN61000-4-2, -3, -4, -5, -6 and -11.

Availability is typically two weeks for small quantities and four to six weeks for production quantities. Depending on the specific configuration, 250-piece pricing for four-module configurations of the 400W and six-module configurations of the 1,000W chassis is approximately $520 and $790, respectively.
