May 20, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, CA) introduced its new FXP6000-32 ac-dc front-end power supply, which is designed for distributed power architectures and use in industrial applications such as laser and broadcast equipment. The front-end accepts common input voltages from 200 Vac to 480 Vac, and provides 32 Vdc output at 175 A from a rear-mounted, hot-plug, floating connector.

Providing a power density in excess of 10 W/in³ from a 5 in x 8 in x 16.1 in (127 mm x 203.2 mm x 408.7 mm) package, up to 30 of these supplies can be connected in parallel to provide up to 168 kW. In addition to being scalable and providing full isolation from three-phase, ac input, the FXP6000 features 3U or 5U mounting suitablility; LED supply status indicators; single-wire or droop-current sharing; remote voltage adjustment and monitoring; and protection against input transients, overload, over-voltage, and over-temperature. Safety agency approvals include UL60950, CSA 22.2 No. 60950-00, and EN60950 (TUV).

Single-piece pricing for the FXP6000-32 is $3,181. Evaluation units are usually available in stock to two weeks. Production quantities are typically available in 4 to 12 weeks.
