Phihong USA Unveils New PSA-10R Series Adaptor

May 28, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

An innovative 10W adaptor power supply that incorporates interchangeable power plugs has been unveiled by Phihong USA (Fremont, CA). The PSA-10R Series features an adaptor case molded to accept a slide-in plug assembly to match the country's local power-outlet configuration. The user simply determines the wall plug style needed, slips it onto the case and plugs it in. Internally, the switching power supply can accept any input voltage from 90Vac to 264Vac, allowing it to operate from any worldwide line voltage.

The PSA-10R is especially important for the OEM who needs to accommodate different wall outlets found throughout the world. It can power computers, computer peripherals and portable instruments, including laptop computers and portable fax machines. The double-insulated adaptor requires only two ac input conductors, eliminating the need for a ground connection, which is not available in countries with simple two-wire ac power-distribution grids. Ground leakage current is less than 250WA and there is virtually no radiated EMI field.

The PSA-10R is enclosed in a splash guard case with a green LED power-on indicator. It delivers a single output voltage via a 1,800mm cable with a standard 2.1mm x 5.5mm coaxial plug on the end. Six models are offered with output voltages ranging from 3.3V to 24V, priced at $16.50 per 100 units. Each model can accept any one of four ac input plug styles; USA, Europe, UK and Australia. Plugs range from $0.45 and $0.80 each per 100 units. All models and plugs are available off-the-shelf.
