Phihong Develops PoE DIMM-Based Switch Solution

July 28, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Phihong (Fremont, CA) introduced its new Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) DIMMs for implementing 8-48 ports in IP phone systems, switches and blades. The DIMMs can fit vertically on a PCB in a 1U rack, reducing the board area required to implement by over 50% compared to competitive solutions. Phihong’s PoE DIMM solution is in full compliance with the international PoE standard, IEEE802.3af.

Each port on the DIMMs features internal current monitoring, a limited current source, and an overload and disconnect detection sensor – all in compliance with IEEE802.3af. The DIMMs provide active power management for port prioritization and remote control. Other features and options include ac or dc disconnect, classification and legacy support.

Supporting 8, 12, 16, 24 or 48 ports, Phihong’s PoE DIMM solutions support local GUI diagnostic services and RS232 or I2C interfaces.

Pricing for the PoE DIMM-based networking solutions start at $1.50 per port in OEM quantities. Stand-alone modules or integrated power and POE solutions are available.
