Kinetic Technologies has added the KTS1676, an innovative protection device which has been designed to protect downstream devices from voltage supply faults of up to +28V and power surges of up to ±100V via integrated N-Channel MOSFET switches, while simplifying the interface and control to wireless charger receivers.
Key applications for the Kinetic Technologies KTS1676 include smartphones and tablets with wireless charging capability, mobile internet devices and peripherals.
“Our latest overvoltage protector has been designed to interface with industry standard chip sets to simplify the integration of a wireless charging receiver, while maintaining the superior voltage and surge protection that our customers have come to expect from Kinetic Technologies,” says David Nam, Vice President of Kinetic Technologies.
“Featuring high-current, ultra-low resistance 20mΩ bidirectional blocking MOSFET switches, the new device includes logic and a state machine to work in either slave mode or autonomous mode to arbitrate USB or wireless power inputs,” Nam added.
The KTS1676 features a select pin that sets the OVLO threshold to an internally fixed 13V or 17V, and also selects the always ON, clamped output voltage of either 16V or 20V.
With the ability to interface directly to enable the wireless charger receiver, the KTS1676 also provides a multi-function FLAG pin that can be used to indicate when the system can be used in OTG mode.
Extra protection features include enhanced ESD, plus thermal shutdown to protect against any overload conditions.
