Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. expanded its optoelectronics portfolio with the introduction of two new series of optocouplers with photo-triac output in compact SMD-6 and DIP-6 packages featuring high isolation distance on output. Offering high off-state voltage of 800V and dV/dt of 1000V/μs, Vishay says that the VOT8025A and VOT8125A series deliver high robustness and noise isolation for home appliances and industrial equipment.
Typical applications for the optocouplers include power TRIAC drivers in solid-state relays, boilers, three-phase air conditioners, thermostats, industrial motor control, power line switching, lamps, and valve control in household appliances.
The new optocouplers isolate low voltage logic from 120Vac, 240Vac, and 380Vac lines to control inductive, capacitive, or resistive, loads, including motors, solenoids, high current thyristors, or TRIACs and relays.
An infrared LED is optically coupled to either a random-phase TRIAC (VOT8125A series) to enable phase-independent switching or to a zero-crossing TRIAC (VOT8025A series) for EMI reduction without the need for external snubber networks.
High off-state voltages of both the VOT8125A and VOT8025A series enhance safety margins in one-phase applications while preserving enough voltage headroom for three-phase applications.
For additional safety, the optocouplers offer a withstanding isolation voltage of at least 5000 VRMS. Their high isolation distance on output enables a wider footprint clearance. Low trigger currents of 5mA help make an easy interface with digital logic.
