ON Semiconductor Announces that Asia-Pacific Region Sales for 2000 Exceed $500.0 Million

ON Semiconductor (Phoenix, AZ) announced that its sales in the Asia-Pacific region for the first nine months of 2000 exceeded $500.0 million dollars.

The latest company sales figures showed that shipments of analog chips used for power-management applications in mobile devices, such as cellular phones and PDAs, were up almost 40 percent over the same period last year. According to ON Semiconductor, new applications are expected to provide continued growth in the remainder of 2000 and in 2001.

"We have seen generally strong demand in the region," said Henry Leung, ON Semiconductor's president for that region. In addition, Leung said that ON Semiconductor sees China as one of its brightest opportunities in 2001 with the country's entry into the World Trade Organization. The company's joint venture with Leshan-Phoenix is considered to be one of the largest foreign investment enterprises in China, with an approved total investment of $280.0 million dollars. Moreover, ON Semiconductor has been Sichuan's largest exporter since 1997.
