ON Semiconductor Adds New NCP551 LDOs

August 22, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

ON Semiconductor (Phoenix, AZ) announced that the company has added the NCP551 LDO voltage regulator for battery-powered instruments, camcorders, cameras and other portable electronics.

The NCP551 LDO differentiates itself by providing a typical 4.0uA quiescent current, well below the industry average. The device also allows for an input voltage of 12V, making it better equipped to handle multiple lithium-ion cell applications than devices that are designed for 6V applications.

"The low quiescent current of 4uA, extensive stability with low-cost capacitors, and the 12V multiple lithium-ion cell capability are all compelling reasons for designers to select this voltage regulator for their designs," said Mitch Polonsky, ON Semiconductor analog strategic marketing manager. "The new LDOs offer designers the voltage and current capabilities necessary for applications that require low-loss voltage conversion. ON Semiconductor created the NCP551 to be easily designed into a wide variety of applications, including battery-powered, portable devices where designers are looking for cost-effective ways to extend battery life."

Samples and production quantities for the NCP551 LDO regulator are currently available. Suggested pricing for this device is $0.40 for 10,000-unit quantities.
