Ogura Intros OGU503, New Micro Clutch

November 20, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Ogura Industrial Corp. (Somerset, NJ) introduced their new high-speed MIC Series micro clutch. Engineered to handle the ever-increasing speeds of paper transport devices, the company claims that the MIC Series provides industrial life and speed capabilities up to three times that offered by bushing style clutches, operating up to 1,500rpm.

The high-speed capability of the new devices is the result of the incorporation of miniature ball bearings into the rotor and gear side of the clutch. Ogura maintains that these miniature ball bearings also offer extended clutch life because they produce less heat than conventional clutches when running at higher speeds. Additionally, the bearings are shielded, which protects them from paper dust contamination, and the bearing on the armature side of the clutch is incorporated directly into a custom-molded gear.

Ogura also offers custom gears based on specific application requirements.
