Noelke Hill Wind Farm Planned for Texas

September 05, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

A 240MW wind farm is planned for west Texas by TXU Energy (Dallas, TX) and Cielo Wind Power LLC (Austin, TX). The 240-turbine Noelke Hill Wind Ranch will be constructed by Cielo Wind Power, using 1MW turbines from Mitsubishi Corp. (Japan). The wind farm will be operational by September 2003, and TXU Energy will purchase the output for 15 years with an additional five-year option. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"Noelke Hill Wind Ranch will be one of the largest wind projects in America," said V.J. Horgan of TXU. "With the addition of Noelke Hill, TXU Energy will have 624MW of renewable energy, making us the third-largest purchaser of wind energy in the US and able to satisfy the annual energy needs of 132,000 Texas homes."
