January 23, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Intersil Corp. (Irvine, CA) announced the opening of a new Dallas-based design center with full front-to-back capabilities including applications, IC design, product engineering and test development, to focus on front-end to back-end Endura power management technologies to further push the company into portable, hand-held and 48V markets. Plans are to staff the facility with about 40 people. Engineers are currently operating out of a temporary lab until construction of the full-fledged facility is completed in March 2003.

"This new design center gives us the leverage we need to gain additional traction into our target portable markets," said Dean Henderson, director of Intersil's portable power products, in a statement. "We have an ambitious roadmap before us to develop best-in-class power solutions for CPUs, memory, graphics, battery monitoring and battery charging. Emphasis will be on miniaturization, increased efficiency and the highest possible solution performance."
