New South Wales to Build Solar Power Station

August 14, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Planning authorities in New South Wales have embarked on the first step that would create the world's tallest engineered structure, a 1km-high, solar power station that would be the first of its kind. The tower will be about 300m taller than the current highest structures in the world. Surrounding the tower will be a skirt of solar collector panels with a radius of 3.5km, which will gather hot air to funnel through 32 wind turbines in the tower, creating 200MW of electricity - enough for 200,000 homes.
