March 21, 2019 by Scott McMahan

The Würth Elektronik eiSos launched a new book that adds to its reference book program, at APEC 2019. The company, which claims the largest selection of wireless power coils on the market, now is also publishing a reference book with comprehensive and practical information on their use. The "Trilogy of Wireless Power Transfer" is comprised of three parts, Basics Principles of Wireless Power Transmission, and Wireless Power Transfer Systems and Applications. The book costs 19 euros (about $21.56) and can be ordered from Würth Elektronik eiSos or through bookstores.

Book Sections

The first portion of the book explains the basic physical principles of wireless power transmission and explores the different methods of power transmission without contact. This portion of the book also presents the leading standards for wireless power transmission.

The second part describes wireless power transfer systems, the different topologies of wireless power transmission, selecting the right transmitter and receiver coils to increase efficiency, and the choosing of transistors, for instance.

The third section is devoted to practical applications including those within the scope of the Qi standard, as well as examples of the company's proprietary solutions. An overview of EMI-relevant topics for closely and loosely coupled systems, as well as an example of a multimode wireless power transmission system, complete the practical part.

Authors

The authors of the "Trilogy of Wireless Power Transfer" are Cem Som, Division Manager Wireless Power Transfer at Würth Elektronik eiSos; and Dr. Michael de Rooij, Vice President Applications Engineering at Efficient Power Conversion Corporation, Inc.
