April 05, 2019 by Scott McMahan

Electrocomponents plc, the London-based company behind Allied Electronics & Automation and RS Components has launched OKdo, a new global technology business focused on single board computing (SBC) and the Internet of Things (IoT).

OKdo has one primary mission, to create an outstanding experience for all SBC and IoT customers, whatever their background, goals, and ambitions. The new business will offer end-to-end support for all SBC and IoT segments, spanning makers, educators, industrial designers, entrepreneurs, and reseller partners.

Under the slogan 'Design the World', it will provide a unique combination of hardware, software, and development support as well as manufacturing services to inspire and enable customers to create new ideas and make them a commercial reality.

"OKdo is testament to our passion for innovation," said Electrocomponents CEO, Lindsley Ruth. "It brings SBC and IoT customers the latest products, solutions and ideas to inspire and enable them to create technology that makes life better."

OKdo will build on existing relationships with SBC leaders including Rasberry Pi, BeagleBone, and Arduino. (See the image of above of the manufacturing of OKdo's manufacturing of the Pi). OKdo says its customers will also reap the benefits of new partnerships with some of the world's most influential technology companies, including NXP, ARM, Intel, Broadcom, and Seeed, plus rising tech start-ups such as Zerynth and The Things Industries.

The new global website is now live in seven countries, the UK, US, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and Japan. OKdo has also sent out a global sales team to support business customers. Along with an impressive SBC and IoT technology portfolio, OKdo is offering a range of new services.

OKdo says its projects portal will help makers connect and bounce ideas off one another. Industrial designers and entrepreneurs will benefit from industry-leading support, including prototyping, manufacturing, and a free cloud-based IoT development platform, the company said.

"SBC and IoT are demanding disruptive markets that expect imagination, creativity and technical expertise in abundance," Claire Doyle, OKdo's Global SVP, Commercial, said.

"OKdo brings a truly global proposition to deliver all that and more. Not just hardware, but the additional support and services that customers in these segments need to thrive and succeed."

OKdo is partnering with some of the best tech companies in the world, according to Richard Curtin, OKdo's Global SVP, Technology. "OKdo is a business built on partnerships. We're working with some of the best technology companies on the planet to bring the latest products and innovations to more people around the world, wherever they are on their SBC and IoT journey," Curtin said.
