NetPower Presents ERS/ESS Series DC/DC Converters

October 06, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

NetPower Technologies (Plano, TX) announced its new ERS/ESS Series of eighth-brick dc/dc converters, which can be used as a low-profile, open-frame device without the need for a heatsink or baseplate attached due to low power losses. The converters will be available in output voltages ranging from 1.0V to 12.0V and are designed for input voltages of 36Vin to 75Vin (48Vin).

The ERS/ESS Series of converters are capable of delivering up to 30A of nominal output current (at 2.0Vout and below) in an eighth-brick package at efficiencies of 91 percent (3.3V at 20A). The new series reduces real estate usage by 40 percent while maintaining the same pin-out. The ERS/ESS design incorporates 100-percent automated assembly techniques on a single board integrated-magnetics design that provides very high reliability. The series meets EN60950 basic insulation requirements and features on/off control, soft-start, over-current protection, short-circuit protection, output over-voltage protection, +10/-20 percent voltage trim, and thermal shutdown control and protection features.

The ERS/ESS Series is offered in both through-hole and surface-mount versions, in the eighth-brick format measuring 2.30in x 0.89in x 0.37in (58.4mm x 22.7mm x 9.3mm). The 1,000-piece price of the 3.3Vout/20A ERS product is $49, and evaluation units are available for delivery.
