NESS Introduces New 2.3V Ultracapacitors

June 06, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

NESS Capacitor Co. Ltd. (Korea) has introduced a new 2.3V ultracapacitor for military applications such as small power sources, communication radios, bridge power, non-lethal personnel control technology, electric propulsion systems, and other applications with size and space limitations that require sudden bursts of power. The NESS ultracapacitor has a life of more than 100,000 cycles.

The new ultracapacitor exhibits energy densities of 2.83Wh/kg and 3.75Wh/l. The 2,500F device has a peak power density of 5.1kW/kg and 6.7kW/l. It employs an activated carbon powder in the electrode-coating process, which allows manipulation of the thickness and width of the coated layer.

NESS’s new ultracapacitor is currently available. The required capacitance size and sales volume determines exact pricing. For a sales volume of 100 units, the price is $180 per unit for a capacitance of 2,500F.
