NEC Electronics Corp. (Japan) announced its new V850ES/Dx2 32-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) for the automotive market. The V850ES/DG2 and V850ES/DJ2 MCUs are suitable for industrial applications where controller area network functionality is combined with control-oriented peripherals, in particular, high drive output capabilities.

The V850ES/DG2 device offers 128 KB of flash or mask read-only memory (ROM), with four-channel stepper motor drivers in 100-pin QFP packaging. A 256 KB version is also a planned addition to the product line. The V850ES/DJ2 MCU offers 256 KB of flash or mask ROM with six-channel stepper motor drivers in 144-pin QFP packaging. The V850ES/Dx2 MCUs are qualified for the required temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C for automotive applications.

Samples of the V850ES/DG2 MCUs are $16 each and are available now with volume production scheduled to start in December 2005. Samples of the V850ES/DJ2 device are expected to be available in August 2005, with volume production expected to start in June 2006.
