NCSU to Develop Molecular-Based Solar Cell

North Carolina State University (NCSU) has received $500,000 in research funding from SolarAmp (Raleigh, NC) to develop a molecular-based, solid-state, solar cell.

One of the targets of the research, which will be conducted with other partner universities, is to develop a flexible lightweight solar cell that is portable. If successful, the research could lead to the development of solar energy technology that is cheaper and more efficient than what is now used.

"We're very excited. This is a tremendous opportunity," stated Jonathan Lindsey, Glaxo distinguished university professor of chemistry at NC State. "Solar energy has a very bright future, and the time is right for its development."
