GaN Power ICs Handle 27W to 3.2kW for Next-Gen Power Converters

March 05, 2019 by Scott McMahan

Navitas Semiconductor has announced that the company will be a Diamond sponsor of APEC 2019. According to Navitas, its GaNFast power ICs ranging from 27W to 3.2kW enable the next generation of high-efficiency and high-density power conversion for consumer, mobile, TV, IoT, cloud, 5G, and e-mobility applications.

The company invites APEC 2019 attendees to visit booth #1241 to experience its GaNFast charging technology. Attendees will be able to see first-hand how the company's GaNFast charging technology enables thin and fast universal mobile chargers that boast charging speeds that are 3x those of silicon-based chargers.

The company will showcase several of its latest products and reference designs at the conference including:

First GaNFast Power ICs

The company will also showcase its first GaNFast power ICs that enable power systems to simultaneously achieve MHz-frequency and highest-efficiency operation. These ICs enable smaller, faster, lighter, and more economical power conversion in mobile fast chargers and adapters, IoT, TVs, EV/Hybrid, LED lighting, and new energy solutions.

USB-PD 3.0 Quick Charge Reference Design

Its smallest and fastest quick charger reference design using GaNFast power ICs. The company claims that the quick charger delivers 5 hours of use from 5 minutes of charging. The 27W design boasts 5x greater power than standard smartphone chargers and the company says it offers 2x higher power density. With world-wide input voltage capability, a new Type C connector with USB-PD 3.0, and Qualcomm Quick Charge™ 4.0 features, the company's reference design delivers a portable ‘go anywhere, charge anything' solution.

Thin 45W Travel Adapter

Navitas is also exhibiting what it says is the thinnest 45W travel adapter. The adapter utilizes the USB-PD power delivery protocol and has an advanced Type C connector to offer a single, worldwide, slim adapter that can fit into your pocket, charge your laptop, or fast-charge any smartphone.

Also, APEC attendees can go to a Navitas Semiconductor-sponsored event, GaNFast II, at Anaheim's House of Blues. APEC attendees can present their APEC badge for free entry to the event on March 18, from 8 pm until midnight, where they can dance and experience the live music from the psychedelic band the 'Funky Hippees.'

APEC attendees can also enter into a drawing for tickets to the New York City Formula E Grand Prix. Full details about the drawing and the NYC Formula E Grand Prix will be available at the Navitas booth.
