National Semiconductor Launches LM2791-H/L, LM2792-H/L Converters

February 15, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

National Semiconductor Corp. (Santa Clara, CA) launched a new series of constant-current switched capacitor power converters, LM2791-H/L and LM2792-H/L. These converters are designed for white LED display lighting and can power both backlight and frontlight LEDs found in color displays for mobile handsets, PDAs and digital cameras.

Designed to regulate multiple outputs matched to within one percent through each LED, National Semiconductor claims that the new ICs eliminate the need for inductors or current-limiting resistance. The LM2791-H/L offers PWM and a 5 to 1 ratio analog brightness control, while the LM2792-H/L provides zero to full current analog control over brightness.

A 10-pin LLP that measures 3mm x 3mm x 0.8mm houses the LM2791 and LM2792. They are both available now and are priced at $1.20 each per 1,000 units.
