September 29, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

National Semiconductor Corp. (Santa Clara, CA) introduced the SCAN928028 and SCAN926260 integrated bus, low-voltage, differential signaling (LVDS), serializer/deserializer (SerDes) devices, which reduce power, board space and costs for communication systems. The new SerDes devices integrate multiple 10-bit SerDes devices into one package and include features such as innovative At-Speed BIST testability. They are designed for 3G base stations, wireless local-loop systems, fixed-access equipment, imaging/display interfaces and high-speed industrial links.

The SCAN928028 and SCAN926260 devices reduce power by more than 30%, board space by more than 50% and device cost by more than 30% over discrete solutions. The SCAN928028 integrates eight 10-bit SCAN921023 serializers on one chip and features IEEE 1149.1 JTAG test support as well as at-speed BIST. The SCAN926260 integrates six 10-bit SCAN921224 deserializers on one chip and also includes JTAG and at-speed BIST.

Available now, the SCAN928028 and SCAN926260 are each housed in a 15mm x 15mm, 196-lead, ball-grid-array package. Each of the two devices is priced at $24 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
