Murata Offers New DES Series Ceramic Capacitors

December 12, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Murata Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (Japan) announced the new DES Series of ceramic capacitors, which incorporate a new dielectric material that exhibits a low dissipation factor in the 100kHz to 300kHz band, enabling the device to be used in snubber circuits of switching power supplies.

The new dielectric reduces the self-generated heat to about half that of the company's DEH Series, while increasing the allowable electric power by about 1.5 times. The improvements allow the capacitors to be used in power supply circuits that have higher switching frequencies.

The DES Series is available in capacitance values from 0.1nF to 4.7nF with voltage ratings of 500Vdc or 1kVdc. The 500Vdc capacitors have a body diameter from 6mm to 14mm, while the 1kVdc version extends it to 17mm. Both have a lead spacing of 5mm or 7.5mm and contain no lead in the wire plating or in the solder.
