Multiplication of Warehouse Capacity in France by Würth

September 20, 2017 by Paul Shepard

Würth Elektronik eiSos has expanded its warehouse in Meyzieu near Lyon into a modern logistics center. The receiving warehouse has been enlarged from 1,000 to 3,500 m² shelf space and instead of 2,800 pallets, there is now space for 9,000 pallets.

The most important impetus for the six million euro investment in the Meyzieu site came from a sharp increase in logistics traffic – sales in France grew by 25 percent since the beginning of 2017. With more space, improved IT connectivity and conveyor technology, as well as optimized processes, the Würth Elektronik eiSos French logistics center now has the capacity to achieve 4,200 picks per day.

Conversion of the warehouse in Meyzieu affected all departments from Incoming Goods with five new loading bays, Inventory Replenishment and Order Consignment, through to Shipping. The previous manually operated warehouse was transformed into a modern logistics center in which many processes are automated.

This includes mechanized conveyor technology between the various warehouse areas and state-of-the-art identification technology and IT connectivity. A special challenge was posed by the conversion of the Picking Area during ongoing operation.

Supported by experts from the central warehouse in Germany, the team headed by Sebastien vom Scheidt, Division Manager Würth Elektronik France, developed an efficient concept for largely automated warehouse operation. This can also serve as a template for the company’s other regional warehouses worldwide.

“The task was not easy, of course, and implementation would not have been possible without the help of the IT and warehouse colleagues from Germany. The transnational logistics team made it possible. Now we are again confident of being able to uphold our service level and of maintaining Würth Elektronik eiSos’ short-term readiness to deliver, true to the motto ‘More than you expect’", Sebastien vom Scheidt explained.
