MTS Sensors Unveils IP65 CSPR Sensor Module

May 15, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

MTS Sensors Division (Cary, NC) announced its low-cost, Temposonics, mageneto-strictive position sensor for high-volume, commercial applications, the CSPR module, which is IP65 rated and suitable for rugged applications. The sensing element module is the basis for all custom-sensing applications and may be purchased separately for under $10 in volume. The sensors are designed to compete with less-precise contacting potentiometer technology.

The small-sized sensors are designed to provide non-contacting, accurate position sensing with a small footprint and remote electronics. The IP65 plastic CSPR model sensing element is housed in a metal sensor tube and is shielded to prevent signal interruption. Each sensor provides custom-length electrical "pigtails" so a connector of the engineer's choice can be added, or the sensor can be wired directly to the controller. The sensor is manufactured with standard metal tab plates for easy installation, but can also be custom designed. Sensor length may measure up to 250mm. Standard stroke lengths are 72.3mm, 104.3mm, 109.5mm, 128.3mm, 148mm, 162.3mm, 186.3mm, 192.3mm, 194.3mm, 217.3mm and 250.1mm. The temperature range for the IP65 model is -30°C to +85°C.
