Molex Unveils New Line of EZ-Conn Sensor Connectors

July 27, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Molex Inc. (India), an electronic components company, unveiled a new line of 1.50 mm (0.059 in) pitch EZ-Conn connectors that are suitable for industrial sensor applications. The new connector system provides about 25 percent PCB space savings compared to similar 2.00 mm (0.079 in) pitch versions. Typical applications for the EZ-Conn connectors include air and water pressure sensors used in pick-and-place assembly machines, base press controls and other automation equipment.

The EZ-Conn system includes cost-effective insulation displacement cable plugs and modular PCB receptacle connectors in circuit sizes from three to 32. The EZ-Conn mark is derived from the simple two-step method of wire termination offered. Field operators only need to insert the insulated wire, and then terminate using standard pliers. The easy termination method provides cost savings and enables make-to-fit harness assemblies in the field.

The EZ-Conn connectors are available in vertical through-hole and surface-mount versions. The vertical through-hole PCB version is available in modular units of three or four circuits in single, four-row and eight-row styles. The multi-row versions provide high-density mounting and allow for different input/output points. The surface-mount version is available in four circuits, allowing for right-angle mounting. This version also includes side flanges for secure PCB retention.

The EZ-Conn system is rated at 32 V and 1.5 A, maximum. The connectors are available in tray packaging and also feature lead-free plating. Pricing per system varies by circuit size of the cable side plug and the number of rows or pockets of the PCB receptacle. Lead-time is eight to nine weeks, depending on circuit size and configuration.
