Minuteman Announces New 1601 and 1609 Remote Power Managers

October 29, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Minuteman (Carrollton, TX) introduced its new Minuteman Remote Power Manager designed to provide network administrators a tool to easily manage devices in remote locations via network or standard telephone. Built to be small enough to fit on the desktop or comfortably in less than 1U of equipment rack space, this unit allows an administrator to control power to individual network and other devices from virtually any location in the world.

The devices are plugged into one of the unit's eight individually controllable outlets and a telephone line is connected to the smart-phone jack on the front of the unit. Once connected, the administrator can call the unit directly on a touchtone phone, enter a password, and select a device to reset or turn on or off. This useful feature allows the administrator to instantly fix a network traffic jam caused by a locked server, hub, or router without ever leaving the office. In addition, the administrator can also set up the Remote Power Manager to be managed through a standard web browser on a TCP/IP network.

Models offered range from the Remote Power Manager 1601 without NT shutdown ports to the Remote Power Manager 1609 with 8 NT shutdown ports for $675 and $929, respectively. All base models are available in 120V and 230V versions with a standard three-year parts and labor warranty.
