Microsemi Introduces LX1684 PWM Controller

September 16, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Microsemi Corp. (Irvine, CA) announced that it has introduced a new voltage-mode pulse-width modulator controller designed to minimize external components for regulating power.

Designated the LX1684 controller, the new switching regulator has a high-efficiency synchronous driver and is optimized to provide 12V to 3.3V or 12V to 2.5V regulation. It also can convert 5V or 3.3V to voltages as low as 1.25V. Typical applications include low-cost buck (step-down) regulators, hard disk drives and computer add-on cards.

"We're continuing to expand Microsemi's line of power regulator offerings," said Kelly Jones, vice president and general manager at the company's power management division. "Because of its higher efficiency, the LX1684 can eliminate bulky heat sinks in many applications and can be combined with low-profile capacitors and FETs to save precious board space."

The LX1684 is supplied in a 14-pin SOIC plastic package with a 10,000-piece unit price of $0.89. It is available for immediate sampling and volume production.
