Microsemi Debuts LX8221 Family of LDO Regulators

August 29, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Microsemi Corp. (Irvine, CA) announced that it has introduced a new family of dual 150mA CMOS LDO regulators for battery-powered and instrumentation applications.

Designated the LX8221 family, the new regulators feature a typical dropout voltage of 175mV at 100mA, an ultra-low shutdown current that's typically less than 1uA, a choice of fixed or adjustable output voltages, fast transient performance, and tight output-voltage accuracy in a compact MSOP-10 package. Safety features include channel-independent thermal and short-circuit protection.

Individual regulators can be powered from a single, or separate, supplies providing voltages from 2.8V to 6V. Each regulator can be switched on and off independently with TTL logic level control signals, enhancing system level power management.

"We developed the LX8221 family to offer exceptional flexibility in a small footprint for designers of mobile phones, laptop computers, PDAs and other battery-operated appliances," said Kelly Jones, vice president and general manager of Microsemi's power management division.

The LX8221 family includes devices with a choice of voltage-out ratings of 2.5V, 2.7V, 3.0V, or adjustable. In quantities of 10,000 they are all priced at $0.62 and are available for immediate sampling and volume production.
